Stoke is a 22-bed home, so it feels more like a close-knit household than a large institution. Stoke was our first home, and opened in 2000. Over the years Stoke has been shaped to work best for people living with dementia. Most bedrooms have ensuite bathrooms, there is also an option of a twin room for those who prefer to share, and the overall feel is warm, relaxed and community-minded rather than clinical.

What communal spaces, activities, and outdoor areas are there?

Life at Stoke is spread across a mix of indoor lounges and outdoor spaces. We have five communal rooms, each set up with a different level of stimulation or calm, so residents can spend time where they feel most comfortable – from livelier activity areas to quieter lounges for early-stage dementia or one-to-one time. A sunny front garden that catches the light for most of the day. A smaller back garden where some residents enjoy sitting or even having meals outdoors when the weather allows. These spaces give plenty of choice for socialising, relaxing or simply watching the world go by.

Stoke Fees Council Funding

Wisteria House accepts funding paid by Plymouth City Council with an additional top up paid direct to the home.

Using their category system for April 2026 - April 2027, Plymouth City Council would pay Wisteria House weekly direct the following amounts - 'Standard' - £780.24, 'Enhanced' - £829.55 and 'Complex' - £863.70, each category would normally be based on the number of care hours required to support an individual assessed by Plymouth City Council.

Stoke includes 20 individually decorated bedrooms, one of which can be a twin room if required. We encourage family members to personalise the room with important, sentimental items so residents' rooms look and feel like home. Our activity schedule is a busy one, and there’s always something happening at Stoke. We offer a wide range of in-house activities, including art and crafts, hairdressing, gardening, themed days, games and picnics. We also visit local parks, garden centres and shops. What is the food like?

Food is a huge part of life at Stoke, and our dedicated kitchen team create a delicious range of freshly prepared dishes each day. We do our utmost to cater for every resident’s preferences and always offer a choice of meals at lunchtime. We often run food-themed events such as buffets, carveries, ice-cream parlours, picnics and sweet shops, which go down very well!
